World Hepatitis Day in Melbourne Sponsored by LiverWELL

Melbourne, Victoria – On the 29th of July 2025, Tawasul Foundation led an important info-session for World Hepatitis Day. LiverWELL proudly sponsored this event. With a common goal: help Australia get rid of hepatitis B and C as major health problems by 2030.
Hepatitis is a serious global disease, and a sensitive topic, it causes many deaths each year. A big problem is that most people with viral hepatitis don’t know they have it. In Australia, hundreds of thousands live with these viruses, and nearly a thousand die annually. We are working hard to meet Australia’s 2030 elimination targets.

LiverWELL praised Tawasul Foundation’s efforts, stating these grass-root community info sessions are key to reaching our goals across Victoria.
The workshop shared vital information:
- How it spreads: Hepatitis B can pass from mother to baby, or through blood and sexual fluids. Hepatitis C spreads through blood. It does not spread through casual contact like hugging or sharing food.
- Get tested: Hepatitis often shows no signs. It’s important to ask your doctor for a specific hepatitis blood test, as it’s not part of routine checks.
- Prevention and Treatment: There’s a vaccine for Hepatitis B. Hepatitis B can be managed with treatment, and Hepatitis C can be cured.
- Address stigma: We must show compassion and understanding to people living with hepatitis.
Tawasul Foundation’s workshop was a big step in raising awareness and encouraging action. It reinforced the message: “It’s time for action. Get tested. Get treated. Eliminate hepatitis by 2030.”
