How Tawasul Approaches Interviews and Podcasts

At Tawasul Foundation, we sit down with people from all walks of life. Some are newly arrived refugees. Some have lived in Australia for decades. Some are community leaders, artists, students, parents or volunteers. Each one is here to share their own story, in their own words.

We want to be clear about what that means.

A channel, not a megaphone

When someone appears on a Tawasul podcast, video interview or panel, the views they share are theirs. Tawasul is the host and the facilitator. We open the door, set the table and listen.

This means that what a guest says does not necessarily reflect the official position of Tawasul Foundation, our Board, our team or our members. Our guests speak for themselves, and we respect that.

Why we do it this way

Our purpose is to ease the distress, isolation and marginalisation that refugees and culturally and linguistically diverse communities can experience. One of the most powerful ways to do that is to let people be heard.

Real stories are rarely simple. People bring different backgrounds, beliefs, experiences and ways of seeing the world. We believe that listening to each other, even when we see things differently, is how understanding grows.

Welcome for everyone, with respect for everyone

Our door is open to all, but our values are not up for debate. Tawasul promotes harmony, understanding and social cohesion. We do not promote division.

That is why every conversation on our platform is guided by respect. We welcome honest and heartfelt storytelling. We do not allow:

  • Hate speech, vilification or discrimination based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or ethnicity
  • Defamatory statements, illegal acts or incitement to violence
  • Sharing private or confidential information about other people without their consent

Our Board and Media Team may review, edit or decline to publish any content that crosses these lines.

Looking after our guests

Telling a personal story takes courage, especially when it involves hardship, trauma or the experience of settling in a new country. That is why we:

  • Get clear, informed consent from every guest before recording or publishing
  • Require written consent from a parent or guardian for anyone under 18
  • Take extra care when guests share sensitive personal experiences

What you will see on our content

Every Tawasul podcast episode, video and broadcast carries this message:

“The views, thoughts, and opinions expressed by guests in this podcast/interview are solely those of the individuals and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Tawasul Foundation Inc. As a community-led organisation, our goal is to provide a platform for diverse stories and open dialogue. Tawasul Foundation Inc. is not responsible for the personal opinions or statements made by contributors.”
