Building Digital Confidence with Fairfield’s CALD Seniors

In May and July 2026, Tawasul Foundation delivered two Digital Literacy and Online Scam Awareness sessions with the CALD 55+ Men’s Group at CORE Community Services in Fairfield, NSW.

For many of the men in the group, technology can feel like a moving target. Some had little prior experience with digital tools. Others had come across suspicious messages or calls and weren’t sure what to do about them. Rather than talking at participants, our sessions were built around real conversation, practical examples, and questions drawn from their own experiences.

That approach paid off. Across both sessions, men opened up about their concerns, shared stories of scams they had encountered, and asked the kind of practical questions that come from genuine curiosity, not just politeness. By the end, participants could confidently explain what phishing and identity theft look like, recognise the warning signs of a fraudulent message, and felt more comfortable asking for help when something didn’t look right.

This is what community education should look like. Not a lecture, but a shared space where older men from migrant backgrounds can build real skills, ask honest questions, and support each other along the way.

Programs like this reflect what Tawasul stands for: building bridges, together. As more of daily life moves online, we believe every member of our community deserves the confidence and the tools to navigate it safely.
