A Syriac Reading of African Inscriptions – Book Launch and Lecture

Book Launch Al-Dirani’s Latest Work

On Friday, 28th of February 2025, we had the immense pleasure of hosting a truly enriching evening at the Craigieburn Library for the book launch and lecture, “A Syriac Reading of African Inscriptions – Book Launch and Lecture.” This event marked the Golden Jubilee of Nizar Hanna Al-Dirani’s remarkable literary and cultural contributions, spanning 53 publications since 1975.

We were thrilled to celebrate the launch of Mr. Al-Dirani’s latest work, “A Syriac Reading of Inscriptions Discovered in Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia.” The evening was further illuminated by his captivating lecture, “The Relationship of the Sabaean and Ge’ez Languages to Aramaic and the Semitic Naming System,” providing invaluable insights into the intricate connections between these ancient languages.

The event was a resounding success, filled with engaging discussions and a shared appreciation for Semitic languages and cultures. We were honoured to have our dear friend, Elias Matti, skilfully moderate the evening, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

It was wonderful to see so many members of the community come together to celebrate this milestone. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Nizar Hanna Al-Dirani for sharing his profound knowledge and passion with us. A special thank you also to the Tawasul Foundation for their generous sponsorship, which made this event possible.

We believe the evening was a testament to the power of knowledge and cultural exchange, and we are delighted to have played a part in celebrating Mr. Al-Dirani’s extraordinary achievements.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event a memorable one!
