A Discussion with the Syriac Senior Men Group: Empowering Leaders Through Faith and Community Training

Discussion with the Syriac Senior Men Group

At Tawasul Foundation, we foster connections that empower diverse communities. Our recent joint collaboration with Foundation House for “The Power of Participation: Building Inclusive Communities,” engaging the Syriac Senior Men Group in Craigieburn. The session was led by our Chairperson Joseph Youhana.

The focus? Faith and Community Leaders Training, a free, self-paced e-learning course by SSI, to equip leaders in recognising and responding to family, domestic, and sexual violence (FDSV). With nine 20-30 minute lessons, it covers definitions, dynamics, high-risk signs, safe referrals, ethics, bias, and self-care, using videos, reflections, and resources like a Conversation Guide.

We emphasised: “Participation empowers us to address challenges together.” Group members shared how the training builds confidence for empathetic responses in cultural contexts. “As trusted advisors, this helps us protect family unity without ignoring harm,” one noted.

This aligns with our values of empowerment, collaboration, and compassion. 90% of participants report greater belonging through such initiatives.
